The Best Netflix TV Shows to Binge-Watch While Travelling

Netflix might have launched in 2012 in the UK, but some of us still swear by the TV and movie streaming service on our travels.

After all, finding an original show that you can binge-watch while you’re on a long-haul flight, waiting for a cross-country train that has been delayed or multiple-day road-tripping can really keep you going. Right?

If you’re in need of some inspiration for your next trip, here are 5 of the best Netflix TV shows that will make even the longest journey seem like it passed in no time at all.

1. Making a Murderer

How could I not start with the original reason why most of us decided to join Netflix in the first place?

If you’ve never heard of Making a Murderer, you’ve probably been living under a rock. It’s a crime documentary based on the story of prison inmate Steven Avery.

In brief, Steven is a Wisconsinite who initially spent nearly two decades in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Shortly after being released from prison, he was accused of murder and soon found himself behind bars again.

The first series is made up of ten episodes that are incredibly fascinating. And series two is pretty good too!

2. Stranger Things

One of the best Netflix TV shows for travellers who love a bit of sci-fi in their lives is Stranger Things.

Sure, it helps if you have a good viewing platform (such as a Panasonic HD television) so that you can be in awe of the special effects.

However, whether you watch it on a plane or in your accommodation, it’s still totally binge-worthy.

Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder as a mother whose son has gone missing in a small Indiana town in 1983 – but all isn’t what it originally seems.

Now in the process of filming a fourth series, this show is captivating, thrilling and I just can’t get enough of it.

3. 13 Reasons Why

Controversial in the TV world yet incredibly powerful, 13 Reasons Why is a Netflix adaptation based on the 2007 book by Jay Asher.

It tells the story of Hannah, a high school student who decides to take her own life, but not before leaving behind a series of tapes to her classmates which denote the 13 reasons why.

Heartbreaking and moving beyond belief, 13 Reasons Why has certainly started a conversation about suicide. And now it’s impossible to disregard.

Full disclosure: series one is great, series two is okay and I’m yet to check out series three.

4. Black Mirror

Previously on Channel 4 before being acquired by Netflix, Black Mirror has one of the most original concepts ever. And this undoubtedly makes it one of the best Netflix TV shows.

There have been four seasons thus far, and a fifth unconfirmed. Each episode is a stand-alone drama that examines modern society and the unanticipated consequences of new technologies.

Smart, sharp and full of suspense, I’m currently at the start of the fourth season – and I’m completely gripped!

Don’t believe me when it comes to how good it is? Simply give it a try.

5. The Sinner

Last of the best Netflix TV shows but certainly not least, The Sinner is a 2017 crime drama based on the 1999 novel by Petra Hammesfahr.

It tells the story of Cora Tannetti, played by Jessica Biel.

Cora commits a startling and public crime without explanation. As the series unfolds, we learn about her hidden motive as the detective on the case, Harry Ambrose, delves deeper into the investigation.

Intriguing and addictive, I binge-watched all eight episodes of the first series in just a few days. Why? Well, Jessica Biel’s acting is on top form!

Since the original series, there has been two more series, which haven’t been quite as good.

Regardless, I’d heartily recommend The Sinner it if you love a good mystery.

Best Netflix TV Shows

Each item on this list of the best Netflix TV shows is special and intriguing in its own way. It will provide you with hours of good entertainment during your travel trips.

Oh, and a little disclaimer: Orange is the New Black very nearly made the list. That would have been #6 for sure.

Happy binge-watching!

YAY FOR REPEAT FASHION. 🙌🏻 You might have n YAY FOR REPEAT FASHION. 🙌🏻 You might have noticed on my feed that I’m a big fan of re-wearing and getting the most out of my clothes. Sure, fast fashion is affordable and enticing, but not exactly environmentally-friendly (or often ethical). Instead, I champion sustainable style! Why? Well: - It’s better quality
- It’s kind to the planet
- It saves money
- It saves packing space when you’re going on a trip 🧳💪🏻 Read more about how you can be more sustainable with fashion in 2021 by visiting www.trendytourist.co.uk (link in bio). 💕 P.S. Doesn’t Christmas feel like it was ages ago?! #sustainablestyle #sustainableclothing
WEDDING DETAILS. 💁🏼‍♀️ Haven’t got WEDDING DETAILS. 💁🏼‍♀️ Haven’t got all the photos back yet but our ceremony photographer @julia_roy_photos was kind enough to send through a sneak-peek! 😄 The whole look I was going for was “romantic elegance” with some boho touches to tie in with the beach setting. Hence, the beautiful flowers with blush pink accents and soft ivory draping that juxtaposed the rustic textures of the bamboo arbour, aisle lanterns and co-ordinating seashells. Thank you @bigdaykw for helping bring my vision to life! What do you think? I’ll share hair and makeup details next. 👰‍♀️ (Disclaimer: not an ad, just grateful!)

OVERLOOKING (AND WEARING) NATURE. 🌊🌸 Just b OVERLOOKING (AND WEARING) NATURE. 🌊🌸 Just because there are dark clouds on the horizon doesn’t mean there isn’t beauty to be found all around you. Have faith. Trust the universe. It won’t be long until blue skies are revealed and the sun shines out the clearer. 🌞 On a side note, I live in strappy tops, linen shorts and flip flops when I’m in a warm climate. (Or short, loose-fitting skirts and dresses!) What about you? Do you like comfy summer style too? 💕 #travelfashion #travelstyle

2020 IN REVIEW. This year has been tough for us a 2020 IN REVIEW. This year has been tough for us all. On a personal level, I’ve had days where I’ve struggled to get out of bed and be motivated whether I was supposed to be working or not. Days where I didn’t know who my next client was or where my next paycheque was coming from, which was heartbreaking when I’d spent three years building a business only for it to slow down to a complete standstill. Days where I’ve been so low because this new way of living has felt never-ending and soul-destroying. That said, I’ve also been lucky enough to experience some amazing highlights, which have brought unexpected joy to my life in such a challenging time. These include: - Spending the new year with my family in Wellington having just been proposed to on Christmas Day and having just celebrated my Dad’s 60th birthday on NYE
- Travelling around the North Island of New Zealand with my fiancé
- Visiting Perth, Australia for the first time
- Celebrating my 30th birthday with friends and family in Leeds
- Travelling around Ireland with my fiancé
- Visiting Cancun for the second time
- Having a beach elopement and becoming a Mrs in Key West, Florida
- Visiting Miami Beach for the second time (All while adhering to COVID guidelines, of course!) ☺️ Now I’m reflecting during a brief stopover in Wisconsin before heading back to the UK. Sure, there are going to be more tough times to come in 2021. Thanks to this new strain of coronavirus, more restrictions and lockdowns are inevitable. However, if humanity has proved anything so far, it’s that we’re strong, resilient and can overcome anything we put our minds to. The comeback is always greater than the setback. So here’s to a better year ahead, may you continue to find hope in the darkest hour. There is always light at the end of the tunnel if you’re willing to look for it. ♥️ #2020inreview #goodbye2020
JUST MARRIED. 👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️ We just JUST MARRIED. 👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️ We just couldn’t wait, so we eloped! Now Key West will forever have a special place in our hearts, just like Nashville (where we met in 2015) and Wellington (where we got engaged last year). Regardless, home is wherever I’m with you @nathanthuerwachter. Here’s to a lifetime of adventures! (...And celebrating properly once this pandemic is over!) 🥂 #elopementwedding #elopementphotography
