If you had a love affair with Spring/Summer 2019’s metallic eyeshadows and sparkly hair accessories, I’ve got good news for you: these trends aren’t going anywhere for Autumn/Winter 2019. Rather, they’ve both evolved to form something bigger and better than ever.
Intrigued? Read on for 5 AW19 beauty trends that are sticking around.
1. Disco Glamour
Firstly, in true designer style, the powerhouses couldn’t reference the seventies in AW19 fashion without also referencing them in beauty.
As a result, we saw the “disco glamour” element of the era make a fierce comeback on the catwalks. Glitter, foil and iridescent eyes reigned supreme at Halpern, Ashish and Dries Van Noten with pearl appliqué even being showcased at Adeam.
And Rodarte didn’t stop with the lids. They also matched bold glitter lips with colour-popping glitter eyes to create a playful yet pretty party aesthetic.
Two words: I’m bedazzled.
2. Classic Red Lips
Sure, classic red lips are always going to be a beauty staple, but they came out in full force in velvet form at the last Louis Vuitton, Paco Rabanne and Helmut Lang shows.
And each time these rich, smooth smackers were paired with flawless skin and minimal eye makeup to let them take centre stage.
Now, that’s what I like to call the epitome of timeless elegance.
3. Bejewelled Bands
SS19 may have brought us logo hair slides and claw clips, but the AW19 beauty trends make even the likes of Blair Waldorf jealous.
Why? Well, chunky, bejewelled headbands are having a serious style moment. Tiara-like designs were seen in excess at Simone Rocha and pearl adornments were all the rage at Shrimps.
And if you style prefer last season’s assortment? Not to worry – a multitude of clips, corsages and barrettes were championed at Chanel, Simone Rocha and Versace.
Needless to say, I’m in preppy hair heaven.
4. Return of the Smoky Eye
Returning hand-in-hand with nineties-inspired grunge clothing, dark smoky eyes were spotted at the Tom Ford, Longchamp and Altuzarra shows.
However, whether you choose to rock them in blue, brown, violet, grey or black tones, keep the rest of your makeup understated for a sultry, standout look.
5. High-Gloss Hair
Finally, wet-look hair might have been a hit with social media influencers a few seasons ago thanks to Kim Kardashian. But it’s now been integrated into mainstream fashion.
For instance, there were glossy waves at Fendi, lacquered curls at Richard Quinn and slicked-back ponytails at Victoria Beckham. Therefore, it seems like all the designers are hopping aboard the hair gel train for AW19.
Youthful yet modern, I’ve also decided that I’m ready for departure!
Embracing the AW19 Beauty Trends
The great thing about AW19 beauty trends is that they mix the old with the new to refresh your look this upcoming season.
Whether you prefer to downplay your hair and makeup or embrace full-on maximalism, there’s something to suit every personal style.
