Lighter mornings and evenings, rising temperatures, and trees beginning to blossom. This can only mean one thing: spring is on the horizon, and the start of a new season of fashion.
Autumn/Winter 2023/24 felt rather laid-back and understated on the style scene. Chic minimalism reigned supreme through simple structures and neutral basics. Then there was the odd bit of playfulness thrown in, from bold metallics to voluminous silhouettes, ideal for holiday parties and festive gatherings.
Spring/Summer 2024 brings with it the same juxtaposition: quiet luxury served with a side of loud frivolity for the fun warmer months. The good news is, you can rewear lots of pieces you already have from your SS23 wardrobe.
Ready to learn about the SS24 trends pending? Let’s go!
1. It’s All White
Firstly, brilliant white is usually firmly in a fashionista’s colour palette for spring/summer. However, this year, it’s all about head-to-toe white looks with neutral accessories to make the aesthetic even fresher.
Taking inspiration from the lace maxi dresses at Gabriela Hearst to the frothy mini dresses at Prada, there’s only one rule that applies for SS24: the more romantic, the better! Think ruffle detailing, sheer fabrics and pretty embroidery aplenty.
I’m in love.

2. Feeling High (Rise)
Millennials, rejoice. The low-slung waists that have been all over our feeds over the past couple of seasons are being abandoned for more favourable high waists!
Some designers even went so far as to make the high rise super high rise (I’m looking at you, Loewe!). Either way, it’s actually the high-rise trouser that is going to be everywhere, whether it’s a wide-leg and tailored a la Moschino or slouchy and casual as seen at Rokh.
Tuck a slim-fitted tee or cami into your pair and add a timeless belt for a flattering and unforgettable ‘fit. Then polish off with trainers and a bomber jacket or stilettos and a blazer depending on the vibe you’re going for.

3. Getting Crafty
The crafty trend isn’t new to this season, it was also all the rage for SS23. Crochet, lace, fringing, embellishment — not only does it satisfy boho lovers like me, but it creates unique outfits that pop against a clear blue sky.
From cut-out embroidery at Valentino to 3D leafy dresses at Zimmermann, wearable art is only getting more cleverly done as technology advances. And I’m 100% here for it.
I especially adore the crochet maxi dresses currently in high street stores, which are darling over your swimwear with sliders and an oversized tote for a beach or pool holiday.

4. Kiss From a Rose
Florals for spring? Groundbreaking! (Right, Miranda Priestley?) That said, it’s one flower in particular that’s having a style moment.
Think demure pastel prints a la Molly Goddard and all-over appliqué at Balmain. Then there’s Simone Rocha, who even implemented real roses within stunning sheer gowns.
The hero piece for me was Alexander McQueen’s beautiful rose-shaped structured dress. But, you don’t have to go quite that extra. An odd rose here and there, whether it’s on your clothing, bag, or shoes, can nod to the trend with elegant ease.

5. Masculine Tailoring
From ultra feminine to more masculine, the oversized silhouettes that we’ve been seeing in tailoring of late aren’t going anywhere. If you’re a boyfriend-blazer-wide-leg-trouser kind of gal like me, you’ll be happy about this one!
Oversized shirts and sweatshirts are sticking around too, and can be mixed with midi skirts and fitted cardigans for a different take on the look. Follow the lead of Miu Miu, Christian Dior and 16Arlington, who fused the feminine and the masculine for mesmerising results.

6. Elevated Sportswear
Sportswear has slowly filtered its way onto the high street over the years and become an it-girl staple, regardless of age. This season, the designers are taking sportswear one step further, making comfort dressing an ingrained part of society.
Rugby shirts made an appearance at Dries Van Noten and Dsquared2, while zip-up track tops were spotted at the likes of Gucci and Johanna Parv. Then did you see the supersized hooded sweatshirt at JW Anderson that doubled as a dress?!
Whatever your personal taste, leggings and slouchy jeans are the perfect pairing pieces for your sportswear. Don’t forget your trainers to finish off this effortlessly cool aesthetic.

7. Make It Shimmer
Lastly, the lame, metallics and sequins we saw for AW23 usually depart the fashion world at this time of year and hibernate until party season rolls around again. But not this time.
This SS24, they’ve gained new momentum for the warmer months, cementing themselves within crop tops and mini dresses for the girlies who like to go OUT out. Gold and silver are especially hot as they continue to dominate colour trends for 2024.
Think liquid gold gowns a la Ralph Lauren and two-piece shiny suits trailblazed by Nina Ricci. Then there were those extravagant finishing touches, such as beads and tassels at Lanvin and Prada, for optimal impact.
Well, what can I say: this season especially, don’t let anyone dull your sparkle.

Final Thoughts on SS24 Trends
Another exciting season of fashion is upon us and I, for one, can’t wait to see which SS24 trends take off and which ones get left behind.
No matter what your personal style is, you can get on board. Minimalists like me can champion quiet luxury, neutral and all-white ensembles, elevated sportswear and masculine tailoring. Whereas, maximalists will be revelling in roses, metallics and crafty pieces.
Or, you can incorporate bits of various trends into your outfits to produce playful, individual looks that are sure to wow this season. Either way, bring on SS24!
