Hands up if you’re ready for spring? I can’t wait for the sunny weather, Easter travel and days out right around the corner. I’m also super excited to try out the SS22 beauty trends to refresh my appearance.
The runways for this upcoming season featured everything from romantic pastels and braids to sparkly eyeshadow and body glitter that goes hand-in-hand with nineties-inspired style trends. In other words, the SS22 beauty trends definitely follow the mantra of “more is more,” meaning they aren’t for the faint-hearted. That said, this is exactly what I love about them.
Let’s take a closer look at these fun, creative hair and makeup ideas.

1. Plaits and Braids
Plaits and braids were all over the catwalks this year. From nineties-inspired baby plaits at Altuzarra to embellished fishtails at Christian Siriano and beaded braids at Moschino, I’m swooning over these cute, romantic hairstyles.
They’re perfect for festivals, holidays and hot temperatures (all the things I’m hoping for this spring and summer). And as long as you can plait or braid, getting this look is easy.
Hair extensions and ribbons are popular additions to this trend, meaning that some plaited and braided hairdos may be easier to recreate than others. It’s often just a case of practice makes perfect. If you’re finding it tough to pull these together yourself, rope in a friend to help you out.
(Let’s face it, we all have that friend who ends up doing everyone’s hair for a night out. Right?)
Just add in a ribbon when you braid, finish off your style with an accessory of your choice or try out some hair extensions to put a stamp of individuality on the trend.

2. Euphoria Style Makeup
If you’re not already watching Euphoria then it’s not too late to binge (the best way to watch a series in my opinion!).
Sure, the ethereal makeup is a bit excessive, but it’s also seriously stylish. Similar aesthetics made it onto the catwalks of Lanvin, Valentino and Anna Sui for Spring/Summer.
Think neon eye makeup, iridescent glitter, metallics and glossy eyes. You don’t need to go as OTT as the Euphoria crew, but you can add a touch of fantasy to even the most simplistic makeup aesthetic. This has actually been one of TikTok’s favourite SS22 beauty trends, so start scrolling to get some inspo.
For a straightforward Euphoria makeup recreation, pair black pencil eyeliner in a bold wing — underneath the eye rather than on the eyelid — with lashes and a glossy, metallic shadow. Top tip: use a highlighter like the Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb All-Over Veil* to give you the glow you need (and deserve!).

3. Statement Blush
Statement blush was mostly prominent at Anna Sui’s SS22 shows. It wasn’t subtle either, being featured on cheeks, temples and eyes as a real pop of colour.
This is a follow-on from the trend of adding a little blush to the end of the nose that came about a few years ago. And spoiler alert, I kind of enjoy it. It’s super simple, like many of my favourite makeup trends. Just grab a blush and apply liberally. That’s it.
If you want to do this trend right, scale back the rest of your makeup, go for glowing skin and let your blush do the talking — because trust me, it’s got a lot to say.

4. Pink and Peach Eyeshadow
Pink and peach eyeshadow might sound like a loud and “out there” trend, but it’s actually totally wearable. Adeam went big on pastels at New York Fashion Week, and part of this involved a wash of pink and peach on the eyes.
Why’s it so wearable? Firstly, there’s a shade to suit everyone. Secondly, you can make it as bold or as toned-down as you like.
Thirdly, it couldn’t be easier to apply. All you need to do is grab a pink or peach eyeshadow and go for it. If you want to keep it subtle, go for a lighter colour and more sheer coverage. Alternatively, go all in with pink on the peepers for a strong, feminine finish.

5. Back to the Nineties
Nineties forces returned to the beauty world a while ago now and show no signs of going anywhere in 2022. Full disclosure: I’m 100% here for it!
Get ready for a big hit of nostalgia with face gems, poker straight hair, brown lip liner, chunky highlights, French tips and body glitter. Think Gwen Stefani and the Spice Girls with a dash of TLC.
Heading to a festival? You’re going to relish nodding to this decade with some stick-on face jewels or a little bit of body glitter. TikTok has gone wild for hair and body glitter for nights out so FYI it’s not just a look that’s strictly for festivals.
(Just be prepared to be finding glitter everywhere for weeks on end. You know what I’m talking about…)
For super-sleek nineties-influenced hair, apply some heat protector and crack out the GHD Original Straighteners*. Job done.

6. Indie Glam
Don’t let me stop you from rocking grungier makeup if you’re feeling something other than baby pink this season. Who says that you need to only wear pastels just because it’s spring (or summer)?
Truth be told, lip stains* were spotted at Coach and Mark Fast’s catwalk shows, and are an easy way to get in on the alternative makeup scene.
Smokey eyes have also been dominating some of the runways, albeit a little lighter than a full-on smoked-out look. Recreating this is easy and can be as subtle as you like. Try a smokey eye palette* and use the different shades to add depth and build up the colour.

7. Wet-Look Hair
Wet-look hair seems to return to the hair scene every few years, and it’s back as one of the key SS22 beauty trends. Reigning supreme at Miu Miu and Balenciaga, it couldn’t be easier to get this catwalk style.
You don’t need to go for the “freshly dunked” aesthetic for it to make an impact. Slick your hair back from your face with pomade or gel for an easy, glossy glam. It’s actually surprisingly wearable and makes for a traffic-stopping appearance when teamed with a tailored two-piece suit or a chic oversized blazer with high-waisted jeans.
One word: love.

8. Glossy Lips
This one never really went away for me, but lip gloss is officially on-trend again for SS22 (and I couldn’t be happier). Shiny lips were over the catwalks of Dior, Giorgio Armani and Fendi, taking centre stage when it comes to spring or summer makeup.
This is probably the simplest trend on the list. All you need to do is grab a clear lip gloss to wear over your favourite lip colour, or try out a lip oil* for the glisten without the stickiness. Sold.

Finding the SS22 Beauty Trends That Align With Your Style
When it comes to SS22 beauty trends, there’s something to suit everyone (whatever your makeup or styling skills). Spring cleaning your hair and makeup couldn’t be more effortless, so there’s never been a more perfect time to try out a couple of trends and rejuvenate your beauty routine this season.
Let me know which ones are the winners!
