With summer just around the corner and life finally starting to return to normality, I’m so excited to start planning my post-lockdown outfits.
But while the days of Zoom quizzes and work meetings in leggings may be coming to an end, one thing that’s here to stay is loungewear.
From cosy-chic co-ords to mix-and-match sets you can pair with your favourite jeans, the best thing about loungewear is that it can blend effortlessly into your existing wardrobe as we make the transition to warmer days.
Whether you’re looking to expand your loungewear collection or need some fresh SS21-approved ways of styling the joggers you just can’t let go of, here are some loungewear outfit ideas I’m loving!
1. Knitted Co-Ord
Firstly, one of our favourite loungewear outfit ideas is the knitted co-ord.
These super soft co-ords have been everywhere on social media. Knitted loungewear is the perfect choice to keep you warm and snug on the cooler spring nights.
From ribbed knit lounge pants to relaxed hoodies and sweatshirts, there’s something to suit every style and budget. Try natural, earthy tones for a look that’s both stylish and relaxed.
2. Sweatshirt and Jogging Bottoms
If you’re looking for the ideal WFH outfit, look no further than the classic combination of a relaxed sweatshirt and jogging bottoms.
With so many sweatshirt and jogger combinations to choose from, I recommend sticking to one colour for a more polished outfit.
To elevate your look, match it with your favourite chunky trainers and puffer jacket.
3. High-Waisted Oversized Joggers
If you only make one loungewear purchase this month, make it a good pair of oversized joggers.
Think oversized high waisted joggers made from soft cotton and cuffed at the ankle. Both practical and fashionable, they are ideal for just about anything lockdown-life can throw at you.
Team with a cropped sweater and your favourite trainers for effortless low-key style.
4. Cashmere Loungewear
If you’re looking for some more luxurious loungewear outfit ideas, you can’t go wrong with a comfy cashmere set.
The best thing about cashmere — aside from how soft it is — is that it’s actually really versatile. Opt for either a head-to-toe cashmere co-ord, or style the top and bottoms separately, mixing and matching them with springtime basics for a sleek transitional look.
While I absolutely encourage you to treat yourself, a cashmere set would also be a great gift idea if you want to treat someone to high-quality loungewear that will last them for many years to come.
5. Velour Tracksuits
Love it or hate it, the last few months of 2020 saw velour tracksuits make a triumphant return.
From Kim Kardashian-West’s SKIMS velour tracksuits to Dua Lipa’s bold lime green co-ord, lockdown has provided the perfect environment for a mid-Noughties renaissance.
For a real throwback, style your velour tracksuit with a pair of UGG boots. On the other hand, if you’re looking for something a little more subtle, try a darker toned tracksuit paired with trainers and a parka jacket for the perfect chic but chill outfit.
6. Tie-Dye
Tie-dye is another nostalgic trend that came back in a big way.
It’s not expected to disappear any time soon, so why not jump on the trend and inject a bit of colour into your loungewear.
Either commit to full tie-dye, or try breaking the bold prints up by incorporating some more casual pieces and accessories. Gold jewellery will be your BFF when it comes to dressing up your outfit.
I’m loving pastel colours and dappled patterns for a more up-to-date take on the traditional swirls.
7. Three-Piece Loungewear
If you’re after something one step up from a knitted co-ord, a three-piece loungewear set is the one for you.
From a quick scroll through social media, it feels like every celebrity’s lockdown wardrobe features an enviably soft three piece.
The best thing about a three piece is having the ability to dress up or dress down your outfit easily by adding or removing layers, allowing you to go from Netflix binge to Zoom call in under ten seconds!
8. Athflow
According to Pinterest predictions, we’re going to be seeing a lot more of ‘athflow’ this year, as we slowly return to real life again.
In other words, athflow is what we’ll be wearing as we start to venture outside, but aren’t quite ready to go back to our pre-pandemic tight jeans and heels.
It is defined as anything “professional enough for the office, stretchy enough for the yoga mat and comfy enough for the sofa.”
Think wide-legged flowy trousers, casual jumpsuits and oversized outfits.
9. Longline Cardigan
Finally, consider adding a longline cardigan to your wardrobe to instantly enhance any loungewear look.
The laid-back fit creates a flattering silhouette, and can be worn over anything, from laidback jeans and flats for your daily walk to a knitted co-ord for the ultimate at-home chill day.
Whether you prefer cashmere or wool, neutrals or classic black, these simple but sophisticated pieces are the perfect addition to your SS21 wardrobe.
Loungewear Outfit Ideas to Fall in Love With
Loungewear had a serious glow-up during lockdown, which means there are now so many options for stylish outfits which are cute but cosy.
Now is the best time to experiment with different colours, styles and combinations to find what works for you.
So even though we’re all hoping for more nights in the beer garden than on the sofa this summer, don’t put away your loungewear just yet!
