Essex: a county in southeast England that’s known for its Roman ruins, medieval market towns and The Only Way is Essex.

And being an hour’s drive from London, it has such a good vibe about it. Plus, you have the option to head into the Big Smoke if you wish.

That said, if you’re short on time and just want experience the delights of the county without going too far, I’ve got you covered.

Roam Around Brentwood

First things first, if you’re an avid TOWIE viewer like myself and you’re wondering how to spend a weekend in Essex, you’re going to want to visit Brentwood.

Why? Well, it’s where most of the action happens.

A lot of the original cast members lived and worked in Brentwood, you see, so the production has always been based there.

On Brentwood high street you’ll find a number of shops/bars belonging to previous (and current) cast members, such as:

  • Chloe’s Beauty Bar by Chloe Sims
  • Gemma Collins Boutique by Gemma Collins
  • Minnie’s by Samantha and Billie Faiers
  • The Sugar Hut by Mick and Kirk Norcross

And the good news is that all these businesses are within walking distance from each other.

In fact, Brentwood itself is such a cute country town, which makes it well worth exploring!

My sister and I actually stayed in this area and spotted several of the cast members just roaming around the streets or driving around in their cars during the course of the weekend.

It was SO. MUCH. FUN.

Eat at Sheesh Restaurant in Chigwell

As well as roaming around Brentwood, make sure you book a table at Sheesh in Chigwell while you’re in Essex.

Why? Well, it’s not to be missed, which is why they have a lot of celebrity diners.

Never heard of it? Allow me to explain…

Sheesh is a Turkish restaurant located seven miles outside London city centre. It does the most amazing food in the most incredible old English pub-style building. And it’s also pretty unique in the sense that it has a bar and live music upstairs that you’re only allowed to go to if you’ve booked a table at the restaurant.

Sure, the food and drink is a little on the pricey side, but it’s worth it.

In fact, we had one of the best nights out we’d had in ages! Just try it for yourself.

Pop to The Shepherd & Dog Pub

Another must-do when it comes to how to spend a weekend in Essex is head to the The Shepherd & Dog pub in Romford.

(Romford is technically based in London and not Essex, but it’s the go-to pub of the TOWIE cast so I just had to include it.)

Not only is this charming pub absolutely HUGE indoors (I’m talking the BIGGEST I’ve ever been in), but it also has a large and pretty beer garden area in the back. And this serves as the perfect place to have a few cheeky bevvies in the sunshine on a summery afternoon.

Bliss.

Party at Faces Club and Lounge

Last but not least, if you want to party during your time in Essex, then look no further than Faces Club and Lounge in Ilford.

Again, Faces is technically in the borough of London and not Essex, but it’s a famous celebrity hotspot that you can Uber to from Essex and it’s got a really good atmosphere.

Well-known for its VIP areas, futuristically-styled decor, six bars and two dancefloors, Faces also does bottomless Prosecco on a Saturday night for a flat fee of £20 per person. (And how can you possibly say no to that?)

How to Spend a Weekend in Essex 101: Have Fun

The bottom line: Essex is a fun, friendly place with lots to do and see (and great food!).

And for TOWIE fans in particular, it’s a must-visit!

Even if your time there is short, it will be undeniably sweet. Just like mine was.

WEDDING DETAILS. 💁🏼‍♀️ Haven’t got WEDDING DETAILS. 💁🏼‍♀️ Haven’t got all the photos back yet but our ceremony photographer @julia_roy_photos was kind enough to send through a sneak-peek! 😄 The whole look I was going for was “romantic elegance” with some boho touches to tie in with the beach setting. Hence, the beautiful flowers with blush pink accents and soft ivory draping that juxtaposed the rustic textures of the bamboo arbour, aisle lanterns and co-ordinating seashells. Thank you @bigdaykw for helping bring my vision to life! What do you think? I’ll share hair and makeup details next. 👰‍♀️ (Disclaimer: not an ad, just grateful!)

2020 IN REVIEW. This year has been tough for us a 2020 IN REVIEW. This year has been tough for us all. On a personal level, I’ve had days where I’ve struggled to get out of bed and be motivated whether I was supposed to be working or not. Days where I didn’t know who my next client was or where my next paycheque was coming from, which was heartbreaking when I’d spent three years building a business only for it to slow down to a complete standstill. Days where I’ve been so low because this new way of living has felt never-ending and soul-destroying. That said, I’ve also been lucky enough to experience some amazing highlights, which have brought unexpected joy to my life in such a challenging time. These include: - Spending the new year with my family in Wellington having just been proposed to on Christmas Day and having just celebrated my Dad’s 60th birthday on NYE
- Travelling around the North Island of New Zealand with my fiancé
- Visiting Perth, Australia for the first time
- Celebrating my 30th birthday with friends and family in Leeds
- Travelling around Ireland with my fiancé
- Visiting Cancun for the second time
- Having a beach elopement and becoming a Mrs in Key West, Florida
- Visiting Miami Beach for the second time (All while adhering to COVID guidelines, of course!) ☺️ Now I’m reflecting during a brief stopover in Wisconsin before heading back to the UK. Sure, there are going to be more tough times to come in 2021. Thanks to this new strain of coronavirus, more restrictions and lockdowns are inevitable. However, if humanity has proved anything so far, it’s that we’re strong, resilient and can overcome anything we put our minds to. The comeback is always greater than the setback. So here’s to a better year ahead, may you continue to find hope in the darkest hour. There is always light at the end of the tunnel if you’re willing to look for it. ♥️ #2020inreview #goodbye2020
JUST MARRIED. 👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️ We just JUST MARRIED. 👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️ We just couldn’t wait, so we eloped! Now Key West will forever have a special place in our hearts, just like Nashville (where we met in 2015) and Wellington (where we got engaged last year). Regardless, home is wherever I’m with you @nathanthuerwachter. Here’s to a lifetime of adventures! (...And celebrating properly once this pandemic is over!) 🥂 #elopementwedding #elopementphotography
