Milwaukee, USA: a pretty little city in Wisconsin that sits on the western shore of Lake Michigan.
I recently spent the weekend there with my American other half. As a result of it snowing the day before we arrived, all the buildings, roads and parks had been dusted in white, making the city look like our very own winter wonderland. It was super romantic.
Speaking of romance, if you’re planning to head there soon for a weekend away, day trip or mini break, here are 3 fun things to do in Milwaukee for couples.
1. Take a Walk Along the Riverfront
Fun things to do in Milwaukee for couples 101: head downtown. Not only can you have a nice leisurely stroll by the river, but you can also check out the stores.
Then, once you’ve worked up an appetite, head to Milwaukee’s Public Market. This is a rather quirky indoor set of stalls and vans offering food and drink from independent local merchants.
In fact, the Public Market’s official website describes it as “bursting with unique, high-quality selections of artisan and ethnic products” which means everything looks and smells (and probably tastes) amazing.
2. Visit the Art Museum
Another one of the top fun things to do in Milwaukee for couples: the art museum.
Milwaukee Art Museum is one of the largest galleries in the USA with over 25,000 works of art. This meant, as an art lover, I was a little bit in heaven.
And it’s not just the art itself that is very impressive – the building’s architecture is so unique. It’s sort of shaped like a sail and has a beautifully modern, light and airy interior.
3. Eat Brunch at Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro
Lastly, have brunch at Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro.
They offer three courses of yumminess, starting off with fresh croissants. Then you can choose an appetiser, entree and dessert and wash it all down with a casual Mimosa or two at 10am on a Sunday morning.
Not only was the food incredible but, being at the edge of Lake Michigan, the views from the restaurant were out of this world.
On the particular day I went with Nathan, there was ice covering some of the lake. This meant that the water was glistening in the morning sun and two-tone blue in colour. (Heart-eyed emoji!)
In fact, the whole experience took my breath away! It’s definitely a must do whenever you’re in or near Milwaukee.
